The connection between volume and capacity
A litre is a special name for 1000 cm3. A container in the shape of a cube with 10-centimetre side lengths holds exactly one litre of water. Interestingly, one litre of water also has a mass very close to one kilogram.
A millilitre of water fits exactly inside a container the size of a cubic centimetre. A millilitre of water has a mass very close to one gram.
There are 1000 millilitres in one litre. We can write:
1000 mL = 1 L
